Cumin Rice (microwave)

1 Tablespoon Butter or Ghee(Clarified Butter)

2 teaspoons Cumin Seeds

2 cups uncooked Long Grain Rice(Basmati Rice)

4 cups Water

Salt and a dash of Lime Juice to taste

Method for making Cumin Rice (microwave)

Microwave butter/ghee(clarified butter) in a large deep microwave-safe bowl covered on high (100%) power for about 30 seconds or till it melts. Add the cumin seeds and microwave covered on high (100%) power for about 2 minutes till they are well browned (not burnt) and aromatic. Add the rice, lime juice, water and salt. Mix well. Microwave covered on high (100%) power for about 12 minutes(stirring mid-way) till all water evaporates and the rice grains are tender but firm. Separate the rice grains with a fork lightly to fluff them up. Serve hot with any vegetarian or non-vegetarian curry of your choice.

Tips:

Lime juice helps in retaining the white color of rice and also keeps the rice grains separated.

When the microwave cooking time for a step exceeds 2 minutes, it is highly recommended the contents be checked and stirred at regular intervals to avoid burning of food. Standing time is a very important step as it completes the microwave cooking process of a dish. Ideally, allow the dish to stand for about 5 minutes before serving.
