Calas


Features of Calas

Served as dessert. Vegetarian dish.

Ingredients for Calas   (Click here for measurement conversion)

1 1/2 cup Hot Cooked Rice

1/2 pk Dry Yeast

1/2 cup Warm Water 105-115 Degree F

3 Egg

1 1/4 cup All-Purpose Flour

1/4 cup Sugar

1/2 teaspoon Salt

1/4 teaspoon Ground Nutmeg

Vegetable Oil

Powdered Sugar

Method for making Calas

Mash rice grains, and cool to lukewarm. Dissolve yeast in warm water, and stir into rice. Cover, and let rise overnight in a warm place (85 degree F), free from drafts. Add eggs, flour, sugar, salt, and nutmeg to rice mixture, beating until smooth. Cover and let stand in a warm place (85 degree F) for 30 minutes. Heat 3 inches of oil to 360 degree F. drop dough by tablespoonfuls into hot oil. Cook about 3 minutes or until golden brown. Drain; sprinkle with powdered sugar. Serve immediately.
